🐇🥮 MID-AUTUMN FESTIVAL COLLECTION PREVIEW🎋🎴

Releasing Tuesday 21st September, 7pm AEST (Melbourne) - to coincide with the full moon and the festival day. Share some mooncake love with a friend, or treat yourself to a lunar themed wearable! 🌙

I've got a small batch of these new designs assembled for this release, but will monitor numbers and can make a few more. I have a limited amount of the acrylic used for the mooncake "pastry" and only had a limited number of tassels.

⚪ Mooncake Brooch (will be available in the same 3 colourways as the earrings) - $58 AUD. Comes with presentation box.

⚪ Lunar Lantern Tassel Earrings in Red/Golden Glitter - $45 AUD

⚪ Jade Rabbit Golden Moon Brooch - $55 AUD. Comes with presentation box.

⚪ Mooncake Earrings - White Lotus (cream marble), Pandan (green marble) or Red Bean (burgundy marble) - $58 AUD per pair

All earrings are stainless steel posts (lantern earrings are gold vacuplated stainless steel ball studs) and both brooches will have 2 locking roller clasps on the back.

The Jade Rabbit and the Harvest Moon 🐇🎴

This is a brooch design, that will be joining my mini Mid-Autumn Festival collection, along with the mooncake earrings and brooches 🥮

In researching the mythology behind the Mid-Autumn Festival, I found several Chinese folk tales about the Moon Rabbit.

One day, the Jade Emperor decided that he wanted some help preparing the elixir of life for the immortals. Fearing that humans would be too selfish and untrustworthy for such an important role, he thought an animal would be better suited to this responsibility. The Jade Emperor came down to the Earth disguised as a beggar, and went to search for a worthy animal in a forest.

In the forest, he met Monkey, Fox, and Rabbit, whom he asked for some food. 🐵🦊🐰 The monkey returned laden with fruits he had gathered from up in the trees. The fox returned with some fish he had caught in a nearby stream.

Despite searching throughout the forest, the rabbit could not find any food for the old man from the woodland floor 🌲When he returned much later, and saw the beggar sat next to the fire eating the fruits and the fish, the rabbit felt sad that he had been unable to find him any food. Realising that he could sacrifice himself so that the man could eat, the rabbit threw himself into the fire in an ultimate act of selflessness.

At once, the beggar threw off his cloak, revealing himself to be the Jade Emperor🧝‍♂️ He pulled Rabbit from the fire, deeply touched by his selfless sacrifice. ‘You are most generous, Rabbit,’ he said, ‘but don’t do anything to harm yourself.'

Having found the most noble of creatures to take on the role of creating the elixirs, the Jade Emperor carried Rabbit up to the moon, to learn to make divine medicines and be kept safe from humans wishing to steal the elixir of life 🌕🐇

🥮 Mooncake Monday 🥮 a celestial lady and her homemade mooncakes🌛

In my stories over the weekend, I shared my baking adventures making mooncakes for the very first time, and I got lots of messages thanking me for sharing the process. There is a bit of a story behind why I baked mooncakes! 👩‍🍳

Next Tuesday 21st September is the start of the Mid-Autumn Festival - another Lunar holiday in certain countries, and the second most important holiday after Lunar New Year. It is celebrated on the 15th day of the 8th month in the Lunar calendar, and falls on a different day in the Gregorian calendar each year depending on the moon cycle 🌕🌙

Last year we were in strict lockdown in Melbourne during Mid-Autumn Festival - but I was really craving mooncakes after seeing them on social media. The two Asian grocery stores within my 5km radius did not stock mooncakes at all, so last year I didn't have any mooncakes 😔

Fast forward to February 2021, and with Lunar New Year approaching I thought about mooncakes again, so I sourced all the ingredients to make my own, only for Mum to tell me that mooncakes are for Mid-Autumn Festival, and not for Lunar New Year 😅

I also started work on some lantern, mooncake and Chinese floral jewellery designs in February, but decided to shelve them until Mid-Autumn. It's time to get them out again this week and ready for laser cutting! 🌸

Growing up in Melbourne, mooncakes were a once a year treat. I always liked the more fun and modern flavours such as strawberry and coconut, but more traditional flavours include white lotus or sweet red bean with salted egg yolks. Only after doing some more research recently, did I find out about their cultural and historical significance, and the mythology that surrounded mooncakes 🥮⛩️

If anything hasn't changed though, it's that sharing mooncakes with family and friends brings people together, but until we can do so in person again, I'm going to post most of the 41 mooncakes that I made over the weekend to family and friends, and give some to the neighbours too ☺️

Making another Neptune Nebula teal and gold glitter recycled acrylic sheet 💚🔥💪

I had so many messages asking if this colourway would return in the @metamorphia.recycled range! It will be back in the next recycled update!

This is a second-generation scrap sheet - some new scrap pieces mixed with the scrap bits after cutting out the first Neptune Nebula sheet!

Teal offcuts with the coral effect are from my Mystic Marine coral designs (earrings restocking soon), and the gold glittery offcuts are from a yet to be released lantern earring design hopefully landing later this month.

Settling into a workflow and tidying up boxes at my new place, the recycled sheets take a few hours to press and melt together, so I am trying to fit in pressing and melting sessions around my work meetings. I'm now experimenting with melting times and temperatures using the new shiny metal plates I had made, the old plates were much thinner!
